The Version of You That Finishes the Year Doesn't Exist Yet
Most people expect a future version of themselves to eventually arrive.
After enough affirmations.
After enough visualizing.
After enough “thinking positive.”
But becoming isn’t passive.
Future you is not something you find.
It’s something you build.
And it’s being built by the decisions you’re making right now.
I started thinking about this in my own life.
In November 2025, I began uploading weekly videos to my YouTube channel.
By January, I shifted into daily uploads.
Those small, repeated decisions didn’t feel dramatic at the time.
But they created a completely different version of me.
I say “um” significantly less than I used to, which has cut down my editing time and made my communication clearer.
I know how to start videos with stronger hooks.
I’m still learning, but I’m no longer guessing.
I don’t feel uncomfortable hearing my own voice anymore. I used to avoid it completely. Now I can stay in flow while speaking, and I trust myself to carry a point through.
I’m not just uploading videos.
I’m accumulating evidence for a specific identity:
a person who communicates clearly, shows up consistently, and builds impact through ideas.
Even now, I’ve uploaded close to 200 long-form videos since January of this year.
That didn’t happen because I “figured it out” first.
It happened because I decided to act before I felt ready.
But before that version of me existed, I spent years going back and forth on whether I should restart this journey on my YouTube channel.
I started my channel in 2012.
I began consistently posting long-form content in 2016 while living overseas during my expat years, what I still consider one of the most creatively aligned seasons of my life.
In 2020, when I wanted to relaunch the channel after that chapter of my life had ended, I got stuck.
My identity felt tied to that version of me...expat life, travel, family storytelling.
And without that context, I questioned whether I even had anything worth saying.
So I delayed.
I overthought it.
I kept reconsidering it.
And that indecision stretched for five years.
Five years of not making a decision that was actually just fear disguised as thinking.
In hindsight, I could have restarted much sooner.
But that version of me made a different decision.
And now I am the person who has to make this decision work.
That’s what identity really is.
Not labels.
Not intentions.
But repeated decisions that reinforce who you believe you are.
I identify as someone who decides quickly and builds through action because I’ve trained myself to behave that way.
So here’s the real question:
What’s your version of YouTube?
Where are you currently building—or avoiding—your future identity?
If you’re unclear, zoom out for a second.
Where in your life feels most misaligned right now?
Finances?
Health?
Environment?
Relationships?
Don’t try to fix everything.
Just choose one area.
Then make one decision today that your future self would thank you for repeating.
Not a plan.
Not a mindset shift.
A behavior.
Because the version of you that finishes this year already exists in potential.
But they only become real through repetition.
So, here’s your move:
-Pick one identity you want to strengthen for the rest of this year.
-Write it down in one sentence:
“I am someone who ___.”
-Then choose one daily action that proves it.
-And do it today (tomorrow if its late in the day).
Not perfectly.
Just consistently enough to create evidence.
Because December isn’t built in December.
It’s built in what you repeat between now and then.
If you want structure to actually follow through on the identity you're building, I created a simple system for it.
100 Days, One You Guide and Tracker helps you focus on one thing that actually changes your life: repetition.
Not Motivation.
Not Planning.
